The news that Cuba is to cut 500, 000 Government Workers must have shocked, not only the Cubans, but many at IMF and World Bank. To time it precisely to the day when IMF Called on countries to focus on Job creation must have taken an extraordinary amount of chutzpah.
Not that the Cuban leadership is known for its finesse. The Cuban missile crisis would always stand evidence for what they thought of themselves and last weeks statement by Fidel that communism is not working would be lasting proof of what they actually have become.
I don’t smoke cigars, am not Jack Sparrow, so have none of his fondness for Rum, and have come to admire one thing Cuban – their boxers – especially the incomparable Félix Savón.
