I always thought the adage ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’ was written by Shakespeare, but turns out not – it was by Edward Bulwer-Lytton. The reason for the confusion is due to my distaste at Shakespeare’s works when forced down as supplemental reading in the English Class.
I still dislike the ‘thou’, ‘hast’ and ‘ere’ as much as ‘I h8 d way dey txt nw’.
2 instances over the last week have convinced me that the adage should be rewritten for today’s world.
First a policeman in Manila who had been fired from his job took over a tourist bus and the final shootout left 9 dead. Surprisingly a thousand people turned out at the funeral for the hostage taker.
Barely a week later, on the other side of the world, at Maryland USA, a gunman took hostages at the Discovery Channel HQ and was subsequently shot dead. It seems he was fired up at the idea that Discovery is not doing enough to save the planet.
We have to wait and see how many turn up for his funeral, but websitegrader stats show more than 800 links and 500 buzzes to his website savetheplanetprotest.com.
Okay, maybe most of them were after the drama, but so were the 1000 people at the funeral – which is more than the total hits for this blog, afore today.
Really, if you can attract 1000 or more people, wouldn’t it have been better to keep blogging and not take a Glock to others?
So much for being fired and being fired up.
