This news has me rocking on the chair, laughing my … guts … out. The PM has given the go ahead for a National Innovation Council which will look into evolve models of innovation (http://www.thehindu.com/news/article574535.ece).
A WTF moment. Go on, read the article and tell me whether it is going to give any output ? One is obvious – it will provide chow to 17 buggers for next 3 to 10 years.
Instead of feeding these chowhounds, if the govt just starts providing subsidies to really innovative, green tech, energy savers which have been already invented / innovated – India would be a far better place in 10 years.
Kitchen Waste Bio-gas plant producing 0.43 kg LPG equivalent a day – A typical middle class household in IND use up ~14 kg of LPG per month – and the Oil minister wants to flay us by cutting LPG subsidies.
Solar Lanterns/systems which could be made compulsory fittings in common spaces like stairs/walkways in all residences, apartments, gardens et. al.
Create awareness, encourage and subsidize use of Solar Chargers (for e.g., from SolTech India) for charging Mobiles, Cameras – the Indian Railways do provide charge points for mobiles in many trains today – why not design new coaches with solar chargers and lights ? Do we need a Innovation council for this ?
Or emulate the TN government and go one step further by providing free solar powered pump sets to all the farmers in India?
Here is the solar map of the world
Unfortunately the Farouk Abdulla, the golf player, is least bothered about these, but is proud when someone throws a shoe at him. Perhaps to him, this is an innovation!
And when research is really done, we refuse to accept it (India refuses Super Bug Claim: BBC) – because it reveals uncomfortable conclusions – so instead of accepting facts, we start throwing gorilla dust – call opponents opinions anti-national or question their motives or their demands as sedition.
Go India Go!
update: No need to comment further – read this excerpt from editorial of Asian Age/Deccan Chronicle of 18th Aug:
News reports indicate that the primary function of the newly-established NIC will be to evaluate policy initiatives in order to spur growth. If true, this appears misdirected. There are enough bodies already that are meant to guide policy after due analysis.
