Why was Sashi Tharoor indulged for so long

At last the tragicomedy has  come to a close with the Tharoor resignation.  The PM and the President have accepted it.  Good riddance!

But Look at this:
  • Tharoor was summoned by the Fin. Minister for a meeting while the PM was away.
  • He was given 5 minutes with Mrs. Gandhi on Thursday and told to be ready to face the Parliament.
  • Mrs. Gandhi meets with Congress Core Group on Friday.
  • On Sunday Tharoor meets the PM for 30 minutes to ‘explain’ his position
  • The Congress Core Group meets for a 2 hour discussion late Sunday evening.
  • Tharoor meets PM for second time to offer his resignation.
Bah ! It raises many questions in me:
  • Does the resignation of one Junior Minister, belonging to the ruling party itself (& not to the other influential UPA partners) has to be such a long drawn out affair ?
  • What has happened to the strong, steady and prompt leadership qualities of Mrs. Gandhi ?
  • Do these people have no better business but to spend hours (days ?) with a simple decision ?
  • How many hours the same people spent discussing price rise, inflation, economy or national security over the last 6 months ?
Give me Jayalalitha any day.  The ‘local’ Amma beats the ‘central’ Amma hands down, in matters such as this.  In 2001, for e.g. She sacked 3 Ministers less than a month after they were appointed, and reshuffled portfolios, for "administrative reasons".  Two days later, the Governor swore in the replacements.
