I generally don’t set much store with what the communist parties in India say or do – the only good thing about them is that they have a basically clean party structure and as a group, have better moral standards vis-a-vis any other group of politicians – centre, right or fundamentalists.
And I certainly didn’t approve or like their opposition to the Civil Nuclear Agreement (123 Agreement) with the US [http://www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/americas/123-agreement-win-win-situation-for-both-sides/240399/Article1-240396.aspx]. But their present opposition to the Nuclear Liability Bill seems justified.
How can the blinkered Government of India try to pull such a stunt on us? Is this a Government ‘for the people’ or actually ‘feck the people’?
As per this report "Nuke Bill goof-up : minimum turns maximum", in the original draft -

If this was China, I think the culprit would have been sentenced to death

- the 300 million SDRs was the “floor” and not the “cap” in case of accidents, and
- the liability was to be fixed on the “operator” and not the “supplier”.
