What a laugh - India has more mobile telephones than toilets: UN report. The report points out that world over the returns on investment in clean water and sanitation as about $3 to $34 for every $1 spent – which is quite an impressive return on investment.
Of course the returns are not direct turnover on the projects, but gains made by way of reduced health costs which would directly result in improved productivity.
A very serious point to take care and note for the Governments of the day, both at the Centre and the States. But with all sorts of hustlers and ego-maniacs occupying the seats of power, will they heed?
Perhaps the time has come to privatize the whole thing – it was only when the private enterprise was unleashed, the cell-phone revolution took off – and the once colossal behemoth, the state owned telephone company BSNL, brought to its senses. It is now only the 4th largest cell phone operator in India after AirTel, Reliance and Vodaphone.
One line summary : Guess we’ve found another way to let out a lot of gas and spew shet. Right?
