Kesaria Balam & plagiarism

I went searching for the meaning of this word / song 'Kesaria Balam' - seems a rajasthani folk music - and ended up at itwofs [http://www.itwofs.com/] - the site is about plagiarism in Indian music.

Do you remember the song 'Akkarai Seemai Azhaginile Manam Ada Kandene' from the movie 'Priya' (1978) ?

Can you believe that Ilayaraja copied the first 2 lines from the 1967 British single 'Kites' by Simon Dupree and Big Sound ?

Visit the site and then cry!

In between, hats off to kartikh who is dedicated to compiling such lifts.  It is nothing short of Ph.D. material.

And next time you hum to some Indian tune - from Hindi, Tamil or any other language, just pause a moment and wonder - if it is a lift from some other original.

:-(

Oh yeah.  Kesaria Balam - means a 'saffron hued lover'
