October 29, 2009 is the 50th anniversary of the remarkable comics Asterix. Google has decided to celebrate with a Doodle depicting Asterix and Obelix on its homepage - though not pictured in Google's India homepage!
In the Doodle, Asterix is shown punching a Roman soldier through the Google logo, while Obelix gazes on carrying a pile of Roman helmets, and a boar. There is no Dogmatix, though.
The Adventures of Asterix, are a series of comics drawn by the French illustrator Alberto Uderzo and written by Rene Goscinny. The comic initially appeared in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Pilote, on October 29th 1959. The first book was released in 1961, titled “Asterix the Gaul”.
After Goscinny's death in 1977, Uderzo continued to write and illustrate the books on his own, though the cover credits still read "Goscinny and Uderzo".
