How to fly yourself in Knots, with F15 and Su30

When you sit down and take a moment to think, something doesn't jingle right.  You get the feeling that you've missed something.  Ever have this feeling?  I get it, often.

One such moment was today morning, at my thinking chair, (do you know what it is?)

Suddenly there is talk of buying F-16 Falcon/Vipers or F-15 Super Eagles as MCA (Medium Combat Aircraft) for the Indian Air Force (IAF).  Didn't the F-15/16 combination lose badly in Cope India 2006 exercise against a mixed batch of Migs - 21/27/29, Mirage 2000 & of course the Su-30MKI? In fact the result was that the F-15/16s would have been shot down 9 out of 10 times.

So why would we want an aircraft which we ourselves have proved can be shot down 90% of the time?  OTOH should we not wish exactly the same aircrafts on our hostile neighbours – Pakistan and China, so we can shoot them down 90% of the time?

The consensus regarding Cope India 2006 is that USAF were surprised by the performance of the Mig-21 Bisons (not 27/29/2000s) and Su-30MKI.  In effect what it says is that heavy fighters like Su-30MKI with light fighters like LCA could very well turn the tables, even on USAF.

If the USAF can be surprised, we can well forget about our poorly trained, equipped western neighbour – Pakistan, and worry more about the one in the East – China.

As a matter of fact, the latest China-Pakistan J-17/FC-1 fighter is a heavily upgraded version of Mig-21.

What are we trying to do?  Try out Cope India 2006 on the reverse in a massive scale?

We want go out with our F-15/16/18 against an upgraded Mig-21 version in J-17/FC-1, backed by the same Su-30MK Flankers (an earlier version of Su-30MKI exported to China by Russia)- a scenario which we ourselves proved is dangerous 90% of the time to the F's?

And instead of raising all these issues, during the Budget time, the honourable parliamentarians were 'Q'-ing up for something (pun intended).

I tell you, to paraphrase an Asterix & Obelix catch-phrase, "We Indians are crazy."
