Yahoo messenger has been updated to version 8 on 15th Sep. 2006. It is better, faster with better UI & integrates with Windows Messenger too. If you are still with previous versions (6/7/7.5), change over to version 8 - unless you are Win 98, then you are stuck with version 5.6.
If you want to check what version you have then start ymsgr. Click help >> click about yahoo messenger. You will get the version info. The latest reads Yahoo Messenger with Voice (8.0.0.716) & MyYahoo Module (8.0.0.1). It is about 9.9 MB.
You can get the installer (434 kb) and then run the setup (it will download & instal 9.9 MB by itself) from : [http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr8/us/msgr8us.exe]
Or you can get the full package 9.9 MB for later install / or on other PCs from : [http://download.yahoo.com/dl/msgr8/us/ymsgr800_716_us.exe]

One problem faced by many (including me) is that Yahoo Messenger (from ver 7) allows you to create your own status message - like siesta time / gone for a coke / boost-break - to a max of 5 custom status.
The problem is that once you have made them, there is no option to edit, change or delete them!
How stupid. Imagine putting up a status message like "gone kissing (sorry, fishing) with ronnie", and the next day find that 'you are "fishing" with betty' & 'ronnie' is online !!
So, to get out of this fix, I found out a Status Message Editor (68 kb) from [http://www.wackyb.co.nz/optioncom_remository/Itemid,3894/func,fileinfo/id,5/]
